New Orleans is a delightful place to shop for architectural antiques. One interesting salvage warehouse is ran by the
Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans. The non-profit organization has a contract with FEMA to salvage elements from homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Most of the items are reused in new homes built for the victims and the remaining pieces are brought to the warehouse for public sale.
What is fascinating is that the organization continues a preservation tradition of writing the address of the original home on the back of each piece. Some pieces have several addresses and have been reused 3 or 4 times over the years!
These three stained glass windows were part of one unit originally and came from a deconstructed house in the Garden District.
They have since found their way to Houston to become part of a Queen Anne Victorian renovation in the Heights.
